Industrious by Nature

The Round Oak Iron and Steel Works was founded in 1857 by William, 11th Baron Ward, who later became the Earl of Dudley. It played a crucial role in the industrial growth of the region, employing up to 3,000 people at its peak.

As one of the leading steelworks of its time, Round Oak contributed significantly to the economy and provided opportunities for generations of workers. However, as industries evolved and manufacturing declined, the site eventually closed, paving the way for new development.

Waterfront

The Waterfront was completed in 1995, creating around 4,000 jobs and revitalising the local economy with office spaces, restaurants, and entertainment venues.

2023

New Owners

New owners Parcap+Partners announce new plans and a strong investment into the estate including regeneration of the of the site to help boost more business and commerce in the region and beyond.

2028

Metro Extension

The Midland Metro extension in 2028 aims to improve accessibility and drive future growth by connecting Waterfront to Birmingham City Centre.

The Transformation into the waterfront

Redeveloped in 1989 and completed in 1995, The Waterfront transformed the former Round Oak Works into a thriving business and leisure hub, creating 4,000 jobs. Centered around the Dudley Canal, it offers offices, dining, and entertainment, with events like street food pop-ups and the Black Country Duck Race enhancing its vibrant atmosphere.

Looking Toward the Future

In 2023 new owners Parcap+Partners took over The Waterfront with the aim of restoring the site to its former glory. With the incoming Metro extension (due 2028) there is a great deal of excitement about the new opportunities available at The Waterfront.
