New Local Police Base Strengthens Safety and Community at Waterfront Dudley

Brierley Hill Police Station is officially relocating to a new, permanent home at Cable Plaza, right in the heart of Waterfront Dudley ensuring neighbourhood policing teams remain active and visible in the local area.

This move marks a major step forward in public service provision for the town and reflects continued investment in Brierley Hill’s regeneration and Waterfront Dudley’s growth as a business and civic hub.

Why Is Brierley Hill Police Station Closing?

The current police station on Claughton Street, which also operates as Dudley Police headquarters, has been earmarked for closure since 2018. Following public review, the building was deemed no longer fit for purpose, with refurbishment considered economically unviable.

The solution: a relocation to Cable Plaza just half a mile away offering modern, purpose-built facilities for frontline policing, right next to Waterfront Dudley’s canal-side offices, amenities, and thriving business community.

What’s Happening at Cable Plaza?

Beginning autumn 2025, two neighbourhood policing teams will operate out of Cable Plaza, co-located with Dudley Council teams to help:

  • Improve joint working between key stakeholders

  • Deliver better services for residents and businesses

  • Maintain strong local police visibility

  • Reduce costs for taxpayers

A Promise Delivered for Brierley Hill

This relocation fulfils a key commitment from West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster, who worked closely with Dudley Police and Dudley Council to ensure local policing remains embedded in the community.

“We promised a new police station for Brierley Hill before the current one closes and here it is,” said Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster.
“Working with local partners, we’ve made that promise a reality.”

Meanwhile, discussions are underway with community groups interested in repurposing the old building for initiatives that continue to benefit local residents.

Why This Matters for Waterfront Dudley

With over 50 businesses already based here, Waterfront Dudley is an expanding hub of commerce, collaboration, and community. The arrival of Brierley Hill’s new police base further strengthens the area’s appeal for tenants and visitors alike:
