A Landmark Year for Waterfront

2025 was always going to be a landmark year for Waterfront; it was our 30th birthday. But it also proved to be so for many other reasons.

Early Visits and Strong Support

Early on in the year, the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, visited the site along with the local MP, Cat Eccles, both of whom were very impressed with the progress being made. They also signalled the support of the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Government for the extension of the Metro.

The Metro Takes Shape

And speaking of the Metro, the work has already begun! Traffic disruption has thankfully been kept to the minimum possible and we are all excited to see the station built.

A Summer Highlight: The Duck Race

In the early summer we saw the hugely popular and successful Duck Race for Mary Stevens Hospice. Thousands flocked to the site to enjoy music, entertainment, street food, drinks, fun times and to raise money for a wonderful cause. The only downside was the lack of wind, which left the ducks slowly floating the wrong way down the canal — but we focus on the positives!

Welcoming a New Tenant

Later in the summer we saw an exciting new tenant in Baby Sensory Dudley. This award-winning business drew a large crowd to its opening and added further energy to the Waterfront community.

A Major Milestone: Dockworks

But surely the high point of the year was work beginning on Digbeth Dining Club moving in, with the “Dockworks” set to open in early 2026. The street food operator has made a great name for itself in Central Birmingham and Longbridge, and now at Waterfront.

Closing the Year with Pride

We close the year with the Leader of Dudley Council coming down to express his support for what we are doing. Whilst we are always focused on looking ahead, it is comforting to look back on 2025 with pride on what has truly been a fantastic year.
